Dear SFUA Friends & Supporters,
We’re saddling up for Harvest Moon 2024! Join us for the 9th Annual Harvest Moon Celebration with this year’s theme: “Boots and Bling.”
It’s been a busy year for SFUA, and it’s time to celebrate the end of summer with gratitude for our bountiful harvests and your incredible support. Thanks to you, we continue to provide fresh, nutrient-dense produce to our community, helping to end nutrition insecurity.
Our farms have produced over 7 million pounds of fresh produce in the last five years, with the help of more than 7,000 volunteers. Your contributions fund labor, seeds, equipment, and educational outreach, driving impactful change. Sign up early and consider table sponsorships, silent auction donations, and other ways to participate.
Join us on September 20th for an evening of fine food, music, and community at Tanaka Farms’ stunning ridge-top plateau. Let’s celebrate in style with “boots and bling”!
To Our Chefs… We enjoy sourcing the finest, locally grown seasonal fruits, veggies, micro-greens, proteins and other edibles. We provide these ingredients and the cooking/serving space ready for our super chefs to cook, plate and serve!
Check out last year’s event!
Thank you to all our wonderful supporters & partners. Together we can continue to make an impact in our community and beyond.
- A.G. Kawamura, SFUA Founder & Chairman
With another record setting year of wildly wet weather, including a rare hurricane, the 2023-2024 growing season for SFUA has been one of good timing, great collaboration and focus. With rain storms arriving every other week, we survived severe flooding events that so many others farms had to suffer through. So many of our volunteers, partners and sponsors responded with passion and purpose in stepping up to help us meet our planting and harvest challenges and goals. Second Harvest Food Bank and Orange County Food Bank (CAPOC) continued to provide the most significant investments of finances, volunteers, timely infrastructure and capacity to help us bring in harvests inbetween storms. We thank our generous donor suppliers of farm inputs, like Bowsmith Irrigation, Nutrien, OCLMS, Agromin, Keithly-Williams Nursery, Tanaka Farms, Fujishige Farms, Mike Etchandy Farms, Manassero Farms, Aguinaga Green and OC Produce.
SFUA continues to work in an expanding alliance with our other collaborating partners: City of Irvine, University of California, Huntington Beach Union High School District, Westminster High School, OC Farm Bureau, Bank of America, Picerne Family Foundation, Bandai Foundation, Tarsadia Farms and GEM-Pack Berries. At this year’s event we will put a well deserved spotlight on the Master Gardeners of OC who have provided dedicated support and vision over many years to so many of our edible landscape projects!
The vision and goal of achieving an end to food insecurity in our region is within our grasp! We can now see that we have the capacity to more effectively respond to ‘hunger’ when we work collaboratively and align our broad and widespread resources. Our imagination linked to the will to change how we approach nutrient dense food delivery has taken us down an exciting path. I look forward to celebrating another year of significant results in the face of many challenges and raising a glass and ‘breaking bread’ with all of you at our 2024 Harvest Moon Celebration…we couldn’t do this important work without your generous support! Please come join us as we continue to move onward! Cheers and gratitude,
